Frowning, Guinevere balanced the dagger on her finger and looked down its length. “Hmm?”
Tristan shook his head and handed her another one. Of course, it was the perfect match; he had a seriously uncanny instinct for diving into a jumble of anything and coming up with exactly what was needed. “Better?”
“Perfect.” She flipped the dagger onto the counter and paid for it. As she was putting her wallet away, Guinevere glimpsed something bright and gaudy. On closer inspection, it turned out to be a huge shoe store that was having a going-out-of-business sale. Come to think of it, she’d been looking for ages for a pair of good, dressy black knee-high boots with steel tips.
Guinevere tucked her new purchase away and took Tristan by the arm, smiling at his sudden wariness; he was good. But not quite fast enough with the escape. “There’s just one last thing…”
