"Justin," JC said, "you're going to be miserable in the morning."

"Shut up," Justin said, his eyes never leaving the screen.

"You're not going to beat him. Chris cheats, anyway."

"Chris never cheats," Justin said. "Besides, I will beat him, if I practice enough."

"You won't. Besides, it's just a stupid game."

Justin paused the game and turned around to look at JC. "Maybe it is, but I didn't think it was a stupid game before, when I beat Joey, and if I decided that it was stupid just because Chris beat me, then that makes me - what's the thing, not a liar, but when you act like you believe something but you really didn't?"

"Hypocrite," JC said, and sat down on the couch.

"I'm not a hypocrite," Justin said. "And I can too beat him, if I try hard enough."

"I don't know."

"I do," Justin said. "Anyway, I'm going to try. You go to bed if you want."

"I'm gonna stay out here a little longer," JC said, and Justin glanced over his shoulder and smiled at him.

"Look at what you're doing!" JC said, and Justin swore and turned back to his game.
