For The Longest Time
by Elina

JC had a habit. He had a habit of gifting people with theme songs, whether they wanted them or not. It bugged the shit out of Justin, amused Lance and Joey, and entertained Chris, who usually joined in on the assignments.

"Dude, JC, I totally heard Lance's song today! You know that song by Garbage, "Queerest of the Queer?" He didn't get to hear JC's response because he was too busy ducking Lance's thrown pillow.

But JC had songs for them all. For Justin, there was "My Life" by Billy Joel, and "Tennessee Stud" by Johnny Cash, and "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon" as performed by Urge Overkill, which was the one that made JC laugh and Justin snarl.

Lance had "Can't Pull The Wool Down (Over The Little Lamb's Eyes)" by Maria McKee, which JC said applied because it was country and about not getting fucked over again, even if it was by a woman. And because he was JC's best friend, there was "Don't Get So Down On Yourself" by Chris Isaak.

Chris' list was easy, starting with "You May Be Right (I May Be Crazy)" by Billy Joel, and going right on through "I Wanna Be Sedated" by the Ramones.

Joey was the only one he had two lists for. There was the list he shared with the other guys - "Only The Good Die Young" by Billy Joel, "I Want Your Sex" by George Michael - and then there was the list he didn't write down anywhere, only kept in his head. "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel. "The Longest Time" by Billy Joel. And "Do What You Have To Do" by Sarah McLachlan, which he though pretty much summed up their entire relationship.

He kept telling himself he was going to burn all their songs onto a CD for himself, so he could listen to it when he was away from them and missing them, but somehow the only ones that made it on there were the songs for Joey. He thought he knew why.
