A word from one of your mods:
If you plan on posting large bodies of text, please use an LJ-cut. Especially if this information can be easily found on a site like Gamefaqs. (Unless someone has made a request for such information.)

Yesterday a user was asked to edit his post, he did not. I myself tried to edit the post, but lj would not comply. So I was forced to delete it. I invite that user to post again, given they can use the cut this time.

Thanks for your time,
Randwise

I've emailed our community owner, and asked for her permission to put an LJ-Cut request in the user info. Maybe that would help a bit.

Um, perhaps he didn't use it because he had no idea what he was doing? Oh, hell, I have been on LJ for half a year, and I still can't use the LJ cut. He's new, so he'll have no idea either. He doesn't know how to even edit it. I have to teach him still, so I'm sorry I am a slow teacher.

The first reply to that post was instructions on how to properly execute a cut. It wasn't my intention to delete said post, but since lj wouldn't allow me to edit I choose that action.

Which is why this post was made, to make a point that his posting again would be welcome. Provided he executed the cut. I'm not trying to be rude, or some kind of elitist. I'm just trying to fix a common problem many of us have with our friends lists, and long community posts.

I know, but PLEASE, DON"T BE SO FORMAL! It suggests bigotry and elitism.

You're a human being, so talk like a human being.

It might help if you set an example and punctuated like a human being. Just saying.

Son, I'm afraid I must also bring you up on charges of misusing the word 'enforces.' Right intent, wrong context. You would have been better to go with 'encourages' or 'produces.'

Thank you, oh old and wise one, of course, just assuming by the way you referred to me as "son."

Perhaps probably used to make me angry, but I really don't care.

Yes, but to use it as if you are better than everyone else suggests bigotism, or more accurately, arrogance.

I don't know about you. But I am. This is a community for Harvest_Moon discussion. Not an ill fated attempt for you to vent whatever ailment you are suffering from.

Obviously you have a problem, and you seem to think it's funny to pick fights where none are necessary. I have reported you to the owner of this community. It is up to her whether you are to be ejected or not. But you will get no further response from me. I have better things to do than fight a battle of wits with someone so horribly equipped.

so what you intended to say was that using precisely correct language and punctuation suggests to one's audience the art of being a bigot, not the being itself?

the reason no one has tackled your apparent assumption that formal language=deliberately trying to humble other people by showing off is that it's so mind-bogglingly dumb, not that they followed your "train" of "thought."

I'm sorry. Do you know me?

Do you know the patterns of speech throughout our many races, cultures, and sub-groups?

Point is, you *don't* know me. So you can't justly say that the way I happen to respond to a comment denotes arrogance, bigotry, or elitism. However, I could ask you the same question. Since you seem to know the "proper" way I should speak. If you don't like what I have to say, I suggest you go elsewhere. Plenty of place on the net where improper grammar is accepted and encouraged.

I know that it is the said proper way to speak, and I was not asking for the angry outburst. I just said that it SUGGESTS the things I have said before. I never ONCE CALLED you a bigot, arrogant,or an elitist. I just stated it SUGGESTS these things, and I am trying to help.

Yes, I do assume too much. Yes, of course I want to argue, it's obvious that I have no outlet for intelligent conversation/arguements, and it is all bottled up inside.

ha ha ha... you're exactly what I mean. Here, Let Randwise Gamgee's words fill you in.

"I'm sorry. Do you know me?

Point: YOU don't know me, so therefor you don't know enough to guess anything about me. Again, I am suggesting arrogance.

so let me get this straight:

it was not your intent to imply that correct usage is inherently mean, condescending, or in any way undesirable, only that other people might think it was. to prevent these hypothetical others' hypothetically being offended, you advocate dumbing one's own language down.

if that's truly your argument, i'm curious: how would you determine how to talk in advance? what word is too long? what sentence is too complex? how dumb do you have to sound to avoid offending people who might not be accustomed to talking that way themselves? do we extend the concept, and adopt the regional accents of the places we visit? do we speak Southern to Southerners and Boston to Bostonites and Black American English to blacks--will that please them?

and yes, I agree with the point. Grammar is based on a buch of old people who had nothing else to do and one day decided that this was the way to talk, and everyone else better follow those people because they didn't have minds of their owns.

Yes dear, that's exactly what happened. Because the world would be such a grand place if everyone made their own rules of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Forgive me, obviously I lack the intelligence to think on your level.

No you don't, that's the point! Society has a unique system of working. Someone comes up with something, and everyone else follows him because they'll be killed, or have their reputation damaged or destroyed, or something worse!

society might (debatably) work that way, honey, but language, like pop-culture, is a living organism, a movement, and it's formed and dictated by use. grammars were not invented, but described by early grammarians. the "rules" of correct usage change gradually over time, as does the vocabulary. i suggest any introductory linguistics text, or, alternatively, the "history of language" chapter in any 10th-grade level english textbook.

Races?!? What Races?!? Hello, we are all humans, all alike yet different, and we let a little bit of genetic coding get in the way of acceptance! We have idiots out there that think that they are better than someone they have never met just because of genetic coding!

The Holocaust could have been avoided had Hitler never been a bigot! If people would just give up their old and outdated beliefs about one another, that probably wouldn't have happened!
